Sleeping ‘solid’ foods
Introducing ‘solid’ foods:
Milk id perfect food but very diluted. There will com a time when your baby need more calories per meal than are in the quantity of milk her stomach can hold so that she either has to have more frequent meals or add in some more concentrated foods. But very few babies reach that point before four months of age. Don’t give any solids before that time without consulting your clinic or doctor.
Many babies are given their first ‘solid’ food when they are only a couple of months old. Often people think that “something solid” will “fill the stomach” and “keep her going for longer”. It isn’t true. If your baby likes to be fed very frequently, or goes on asking for night feedings after the time when you feel should be sleeping through, she need more food and you should give her more milk. That’s the food that her digestion (and her kidneys) is designed to cope with.
It’s in the fifth month that babies often get interested in what they see you eating. Give your baby a piece of toast off your plate and she’ll hold and suck it, as she does all her “toys”. Let her taste your applesauce of your finger and she’ll begin to understand that food does not have to be milk. Now, instead of having more and more milk she can begin to try tiny quantities of other foods along with all the milk she wants.
