Jars and cans
Start with single food from amongst the strained varieties:
“Strained carrots” rather then
“Strained vegetable dinner”;
“Strained apple” rather then “apple dessert”.
When it is clear that your baby is digesting these new foods easily, offer as many, offer as many different varieties as you can and let her develop her own preferences. Expect to waste some.
A jar holds 3 tablespoons and must be refrigerator and used within 24 hours or
thrown away.
Even if you plan to go on using jars of food including the later “toddler varieties”, try to use at least some fresh-cooked foods as well.
Commercial baby foods are nutritionally excellent but their sameness of taste and texture is a poor preparation for later family meals.
