How to introduce her to her own first foods
These food s are not meant to be instead if any of her milk so don’t introduce them at a time when she is eager to suck. Wait until after her ordinary feeding and then offer the first tastes as an interesting extra.
She does not know how to eat without sucking. Don’t dump a spoonful in her mouth and expect her to swallow; she’ll either gag or push the food forward with her tongue so it all dribbles out again.
Find a tiny spoon; make the food semi-liquid; hold it to her lips and let her suck it off.
If she likes the taste she will quickly get enthusiastic. If she doesn’t leave it for a day or two.
Once she accepts a little solid food offer it regularly at one or two mealtimes and move it forward so that she starts with a brief suck of milk to quench her thirst, then has her spoon food, and then sucks for as long as she wants.
