What solid food?
At this early stage your baby’s solid foods do not have to provide her with a “good mixed diet” because her important dietary needs are still met by her milk.
It is more important avoid the few thing she could not have than to give her particular foods.
- Avoid much salt. Don’t add salt to anything she going to eat or use stock cubes, yeast extract, ham or any preserved meat.
- Avoid all alcohol, coffee and tea
- Avoid hot spices and peppers
- Keep sugar to a minimum
- Avoid seeds or stringy food
Most fruit and vegetables will need sieving even if they are pureed.
- Serve all foods semi- liquid
Pasty textures are difficult for her to swallow and will make her gag.
She cannot chew so lumps will have to be swallow as lumps…
- Some babies find certain foods hard to digest; a few are actually allergic to some items.
- Start with bland, easy-to-digest foods; avoid those with a high potential for allergy (such as wheat cereals, egg with, strawberries) and give each new food on its own.
That way you will know which food was responsible for any digestive upset.
Within those limits your baby can try anything: your own cooking, commercial baby foods or some of each.
