Exploring a New World

Recovering from labor and birth.
Giving birth is an exciting as it is exhausting, you're holding the baby who's been hidden from you for nine months. You can't stop looking and exclaiming. It's not tea and rest you want, it is champagne and a party.
It does'nt last of course. you need time to believe that this baby really is yours and to share the miracle with your partner= but it won't be long before your physical neds re-assert themselves and even a hospital bed feels like goosedown. Sleep. When you wake up the baby will be there. The birth is over but being that baby's mother has just begun.

New Born babies Easy Care

Easy care

At the beginning your baby is only happy when he is a warm bundle, so the everyday care routines that you will both take for granted later on can seen daunting. If he hates being bathed you will hate bathing him. You don't    have to do it. You can care for him beautifully without ever making him jump and cry.
Don’t try to do everything on your lap. Use towel-covered changing mat at a height that will not make your backache. He will relax on its firm support and you will have both free. Gather everything you need within reach. He could roll off.
Undress and re-dress  him a little at a time so that he never has to be naked.
A towel laid over his bare tummy will help him fell protected and calm.
Stick to front-opening clothes so that you need not jerk him round and turn him over.

Diaper changing. When your baby is wet you can just wipe him with damp cotton balls or baby oil. If he is soiled you may need soap, rinse and dry his bottom. Make sure you clean all his creases but leave a boy’s foreskin strictly alone. It’s not meant to pull back for months and may not for years.

Hands. Keep fingernails really short or he will scratch his face as he waves his arms. Use tiny round-ended nursery scissors. If he is to wriggly when he's awake, cut his nails when he is sleeping.

Neck, face and head Traces of sticky milk in his scalp, could make his skin sore. Sponge and dry him carefully. Even a baby with lots of hair doesn't need shampoo yet. Don't probe in ears or nostrils (no cotton swab!). All his inside places will take care of themselves so just wipe around the outside.

Eyes. Can gate "sticky". If they do, consult your pediatrician. Use warm boiled water and a separate swab for each eye and wipe from the inner to outer corner. That way you will not spread any infection from one eye to the other.

Diapers and diaper rash.

Choosing between disposable or cloth diapers means balancing money against inconvenience. You may compromise with some of each. Cloth diapers will not save you money if you have to buy a washer and dryer in order to cope …

Some babies’ bottoms gat sore whatever you do; other never get diaper rash. Take precaution while you what to discover your luck.

Change him often (especially when he’s soiled as well as wet) and leave him on, rather then in a diaper when you can.

Use a one way liner that lets urine through are but not back again (usually included in quality disposables) and sacrifice 100% efficiency in plastic pants to the cause of some air-circulation.

A simple barrier cream is usually worthwhile too.
Cures for simple redness and chapping are more of the same but if there are spots, blisters or sores show them to your doctor.  Diaper rash can be due to infection (such as thrush) which need treatment.
